In brief
The former pub was built by the Holt Brewery Co. Ltd in the late 19th century, and was originally called the Aston Cross Tavern, later renamed to The Golden Cross. In later years it was a pub called O'Reilly's. Since it became flats from 2012, the Ansell's signs were removed.

The Golden Cross - history
There has been a pub at the corner of Lichfield Road and Rocky Lane since at least 1775, when it was opened as a public house and tea gardens.
One former name was the Aston Cross Tavern.
When the first landlord died in 1792, his widow kept th licence until her death in 1817.
The current red brick pub was probably built by the 1880s by the Holt Brewery Company, they were later bought out by the Ansells Brewery, whose factory was on the site opposite on the Lichfield Road.
Later name changes include The Golden Cross and O'Reilly's, pub the pub closed for good in 2012, and was converted into flats called Isaac Court.

The red brick and terracotta Holt Brewery Co Ltd sculpted signs are still visible on the building today.
