The Britannia - History

A pub built on the Lichfield Road in Aston, opposite Grosvenor Road, and near Aston Station, it was built from 1898 to 1900 by Wood & Kendrick for Mitchells & Butlers Ltd, with red brick and buff terracotta and brown glazed bricks on the ground floor.

It was built on the site of a previous pub known as the Aston Hall Tavern, which was built in 1867, but in 1872 changed it's name to the Britannia.

The exterior was built in the Eclectic Jacobean Renaissance style. There is a faded ghost sign on the side of the building.

The Britannia has not operated as a public house for a very long time. By 2010 it had been turned into Britannia Miehfil Shisha. By 2015 it had become Eritrea Café. After this it was the Aston Café from 2017 until at least 2022.
