Aston Cross Clock Tower - A Birmingham Gem!

The Aston Cross Clock Tower is located on an island between Lichfield Road and Rocky Lane in Aston. Dated to 1891, it was close to the site of the HP Sauce factory (now East End Foods).

Where is the Aston Cross Clock Tower?

The Aston Cross Clock Tower is on an island between Park Lane, Lichfield Road, Rocky Lane and Aston Road North, Aston, Birmingham, B6 5RW. It was formerly at the junction of Park Road and Lichfield Road.

In brief

A Historic landmark. The Aston Cross Clock Tower was made in 1891 of iron, and has four clock faces. It was near the Ansells Brewery (on site from 1881 to 1981) and the HP Sauce factory (late 19th century until 2007). The site today is East End Foods.

Aston Cross - history

The medieval Aston Cross was at the junction of Lichfield Road, Park Lane and Rocky Lane, but by the 19th century it had decayed to a stump and it's remains transferred to an Aston churchyard in 1854.

It was replaced in 1891 with the present Aston Cross clock.

The clock has been Grade II listed since 1982.

It appears that the clock was at one point moved to the Park Road and Lichfield Road junction, but is now back on the Aston Cross roundabout.
